Photo Courtesy of MTS Management, Doug Briney

From the snowy hills of Anchorage, Alaska independent country artist Doug Briney has reason to smile these days. Briney's big news announcement came earlier today that in fact Briney has been signed to Tate Music Group who has worked with country artists Lee Greenwood and Neal McCoy. Doug's positive country style suits well with the Christian based label. Briney's deal with Tate will bring new music and new challenges to the fore front in Doug's growing career. With any indication the traditional country sound will emerge through Briney's deeply tender heart felt vocals that will surely give country music something to talk about. Briney's brand new album will debut on the new label.

Thompson Square Feels So Good

Shawna and Kiefer Thompson duo of Thompson Square have been feeling good these days after a whirl wind of touring and writing new music for a brand new album have recently announced a release date for their highly anticipated sophomore album due out  March 26,2013 has come together on a beautiful note. Much of  2012 was a year of many highs and lows for Shawna and Keifer that would inspire much of this album personally. The title track and name of album suits them well, Just Feels Good is exactly where Thompson Square is these days. The entire writing process for Keifer and Shawna would mark a first working with  songwriter Kyle Jacobs known for the hits "8th World Wonder", "More Than A Memory" and from the new Tim McGraw album"Nashville Without You" Jacobs writing credits span across music row, his undeniable connection with others is an easy laid back approach and I must say this is a perfect match for Thompson Square. Jacobs' writing credits include the tracks "That's So Me and You" written with Keifer Thompson and songwriter Vicky McGehee, "I Can't Outrun You" with writers Joe Leathers and Ben Glover and "Maybe It's You" with Vicky McGehee and Kyle Sackley. Songwriter, producer Brett James makes the mix on a stronger level on the co-writes of "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About", "For The Life Of Me" and "Here's To Being Here". The songwriters themselves have a unique blend and will surely be an award winning album waiting in the wings. For Shawna and Keifer this new milestone will mark new highs on this album and will enrich listeners and fans alike. It's all in a song and these songs will truly touch those who listen. Thompson Square are just getting started and no holding back for the darling duo.

One could tell you Casey James wears his heart and emotions on his sleeve, it is true, and as the person he is, artist and musician he truly shines. At his first live sold out show at The Dusty Armadillo the hottest little night club in Rootstown, Ohio Saturday night James performed the hits "Let's Don't Call It A Night" and "Crying On A Suitcase" from his debut album including "Drive", "The Good Life" and "She's Money" before breaking out into new material.

" Breaking Through The Blue" an up tempo tune has the making of a country radio hit single, it's contagious melody fits that radio mold. For those who have seen James live changes guitars through out the hour and a half set. Once James pulls out the shiny black and sliver  guitar fans  know it's time for "Drive" the fast paced, upbeat song that guarantees you to get those feet a tapping. On the new "A Woman's Touch" a soulfully bluesy song has quickly become a fan favorite among the Team Casey James fan base, fans want to see this become a follow up single ( not yet released). The song itself has a seductive soulful blues vibe any woman would fall for. Steel guitarist David Kurrasch brings the song it's magic.

Partly through the set Casey talks to the crowd before breaking into "Crying On A Suitcase", as of 2-11-13 on media base chart Crying On A Suitcase sits at number 14. It was quite obvious everyone knew the song singing along with James and as for the grin on his face that I see often at shows Casey loves when the crowd breaks out singing along with him. Following, Casey went on to perform yet another new penned song, "Run Away"  to " Love The Way You Miss Me" in which Casey so deservedly dedicates to our service men and women who are serving our country. In the upbeat bluesy cover of "So High" which James performs frequently had the crowd cheering and dancing. On yet another newly penned song James performs "She's My Girl" and for those who haven't heard the newly performed songs country music fans can see and hear them on YouTube, they are well worth watching. James' cover of "Need Your Love So Bad" simply oozes appeal, the bluesy ballad is down right performed beautifully.  At one point through the set Casey looks out amongst the crowd adoringly seen here.

It was a bitter sweet moment for Casey to announce friend and keyboardist Justin Pate was moving on in his musical endeavors, after some tears were shed it was clear how upsetting it was to announce. This would be Justin's last gig with the Casey James band. These are moments that are most difficult and the crowd cheered him on and we can only wish Justin the best in his journey.

On the last song sung  James breaks out on the cover of "Polk Salad Annie" a real crowd pleaser and fan favorite to which each band member is spotlighted and recognized for their artistry. Visibly Casey get's lost in the moment with his guitar on the song. In some instances Polk Salad Annie lasts up to 15 minutes, however on this night Casey and the band played roughly  8 to 10 minutes.
Truly Casey and his band mates have a special bond, their good hearted nature is just who they are.

Two hours past show time Casey made sure every fan received an autograph and photos with them, after all they have gotten Casey to this very place in his career. Casey James is more than a musician and artist he takes time with those who truly supports him. It shows how devoted Casey James fans are.

Country Music Shines At 55th Annual Grammy Awards

Country music may not have crossed over completely into the mainstream of pop music in fact country music is still much country music regardless how you see and define the who and what of the genre. The traditional, blues, folk, soul, honky tonk and Americana sounds still have a place in radio. Country music took to the stage at the 55th annual Grammy Awards Sunday February 10,2013 with performances from Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown of the the Zac Brown Band, Mumford and Sons, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Hunter Hayes, all who brought their own form of artistry to their fellow industry peers.
Taylor Swift who opened the show brought a new spin to audiences on her mega multi platinum hit "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" with an eye popping, eye candy Alice In Wonderland theme. Swift the ringleader triumphed conquering the evil queen of hearts.
In the collaborating duet Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley complimented each other well  on a vocal level so harmonizing in the arrangement of Lambert's "Over You" and Bentley's "Home". The duet worked, the pair received praise from the audience including Lambert's husband fellow country artist Blake Shelton cheering them both on.
Mumford and Sons arousing traditional blues folk country sound of their performance "I Will Wait" gave the crowd something to clap and stomp their feet to, the sing along tune was in fact one of many high lights of the night. The incorporating of the banjo and horns gave the song a more traditional country sound.
Zac Brown of the Zac Brown Band was well on hand to take to the stage in a tribute performance of "Put The Lord On Me" with Elton John, Mumford and Sons, Mavis Staples and lead vocalist of the Alabama Shakes for those we will forever remember who passed away this past year to remembering Sandy Hook Elementary. The High lighted performance was the night's most touching momentous performance.

Country music truly shined giving everyone something to talk about from Carrie Underwood's screen projector dress to Taylor Swift's call out during her on stage performance to many other highs and lows of the biggest night of the year.

Maggie Rose Discusses New Album Cut To Impress

Photo Courtesy of  Loud Mouth Entertainment

It's perfectly certain Maggie Rose has a clear path set ahead and what has come from it an album she calls her own. The highly anticipated debut album Cut To Impress at press time is scheduled for release March 26,2013. In our new interview we discuss the album, songwriting, Maggie's sound and Maggie herself. I say country music is just the place for Maggie Rose.

You've inspired so many with your first single "I Ain't Your Mama", have you seen your fan base grow since it's release this past year?  Oh most definitely, from touring to radio and  for country radio's support and introduction of the song has reached to so many of my listeners,it's been a really great journey. It's a great introduction into what you will get from the album.

When you began  to work on this project did you already have a clear idea how you wanted the album to sound? Preachers Daughter one of the first I had in co-writing had this swampy, sultry, bluesy vibe, the band and I wanted to go sassy with the arrangements, so with that in mind the band and I had felt this is what we wanted to go with, stepping out of the box a bit creating this album on so many different levels. You'll get blues and soul with the country sound. It will actually set this apart from other stuff you're hearing right now.

Did you learn anything new about yourself through the process? Oh,Absolutely!  Working on your first album you want to come across approachable and connect to the fans who see you perform these songs live. The band and I really worked together to incorporate so many elements to every show, the audience picks up on those things, they see that, it's my responsibility to be myself and project what I'm about.

The album title is Cut To Impress, how did you come up with the title? It came from  the Mostly Bad song I wrote, there's a line within the song that fits to my personality and sound of this album, it really gives it this unique edge.

Were there any tracks you were personally connected to? Yes, absolutely! I have to be, Preachers Daughter especially, it's a fictional story that was inspired of what was going on at that time in my life. Oh yes, I remember the telling of this story during the Chicks for Picks event last October, thank you for the reminder Maggie, your welcome Shellie.

Did you write much of the material yourself or did you co-write? To this point I've wrote several songs.I co-wrote half of the material you'll hear on the album, working with Candy Cameron who wrote "I Ain't Your Mama", she had at hand in co -writing "Better" another track that will be on this album, I found myself especially connected to this song, it's really amazing. I've worked with Candy for awhile now, she's an amazing  songwriter who knows my style and sound. Her contribution to the album has been wonderful. You'll hear many elements from the ten tracks that were picked.

How excited are you to know this album is finally finished and to get it out there to listeners? I'm so excited and ready to get this out to the listeners. The work that has gone into this whole body of work from the writing to the packaging, right down to the artwork and photo shoot has nothing been but fun. The whole spectrum of who I am and what I can bring to this format of country music is so much a part of me. I'm so proud and excited it's come to this.

You heard it here country fans Maggie Rose is well on her way to define country music bringing her own spin on things and making it work.  Cut To Impress will certainly impress country listeners and bring a whole new vibe to country music all together, without a doubt country is country with so much soul.
