Lucy Hale is best known on the ABC Family Channel hit TV series Pretty Little Liars. Hale's earliest memories were far from acting, born and raised in Memphis, TN Lucy's career path began performing on NBC's American Juniors singing reality show that had her moving to Los Angeles, California. While there acting took over the budding stars singing career putting music on the back burner. When you think of cowboys you vision rough riders, smoking gun, dust and grit, that is not the case with Alaskan cowboy Doug Briney who picked up his life and family to move to Nashville, Tennessee a little over a month ago. Briney is the complete opposite of a rough rider. Poised, relaxed and laid back Briney is anxious to release his Tate debut Super Country Cowboy to be nationally released November 5,2013. In our brand new interview Doug and I talk country music, the album, what made him decide to move to Nashville and a growing career.

Before getting a word in edge wise, I was happy to talk with Doug again, like most artists, independent or mainstream it is the person behind the music who enriches an interest me. Personality and character, Doug Briney by  heart and soul has the comfort of a southern man through and through, his words flow effortlessly and Doug jumped right in. " It seems as if it's been a long time coming but it really isn't, it just seems that way to me. We started in February with the tracks. In May I did the recordings, and we went from there ". "I'm very excited about it"." It will be a real step up in quality and what we're doing with the marketing of it."  In talk of his Tate debut Super Country Cowboy Briney explains. 

You're taking a new approach with you're style and sound on Super Country Cowboy, do you think fans will like this new approach?
I'm performing these in live shows, the responses from the fans in the crowd have been positive, their feedback on these songs are divided one of them being Believe and the other two being Pretty Big Deal and Super Country Cowboy, their connecting to these songs on the level I'm connected to them. Folks are really enjoy it.

Did you have much of a decision on picking the songs for this album?
I had a lot of decision in it, on the first album I listened to over 300 hundred selections to listen and choose from, it was narrowing it down to ten, four of them were covers at the time that I wanted to do already, Michael (Michael Stover , MTS Management) my manager listened through I don't know how many on this project and sent the one's he felt would fit my voice over in my direction. There were those I felt personally connected with.It was still quite a process. Eugene Fuguay I feel especially excited about. Randy Owen from Alabama had the song on hold for three and a half months, it wasn't even a demo at the time it was a work tape, he heard it, put on hold and the day he released it, his manager contacted Michael in regard of listening to it. I love the story of the song, it was so different. The song itself reminds you of the story line of Reba's The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia, I just really felt connected. There were a number of patriotic tracks as well, when I heard them they just didn't fit, it wasn't until I heard Unknown Solider, I knew I wanted to record it. I was really hands on involved with the entire selection of the album. The Money the Gun and the Bible yet another track I felt a personal connection to.  When I'm performing these songs they sound believable because of the connection I have with them.


Did you know much about Tate Music Group before you were signed?
No I did not, I didn't know much about Tate Music Group before I was signed. Michael contacted me, we weighed through options what Tate had to offer. We went to contacting a couple of the artists Tate is working with and had come to being pleased with the outcome what others were saying about them. I have to say they have been a great group to work with, from Acquisitions to all the way down to now, Joe Reese, to marketing, Don Johnson in production, not Don Johnson the TV actor, he used to travel with Emmylou Harris, he's a musician in his own right. I'm pleased every step of the way with Tate. It's been very well communicated along the lines of the album. I'm really excited with the overall product of it.




Since the move from Alaska to Nashville what has been the most challenging for you and you're family?
I roll with the punches pretty easily. The first week in Nashville we went through a number of issues from the kids going back to school, to renovations of the house, you name it. There are a number of challenges, we don't really see it as a challenge it is how we can get things done, figure it out and move on from it. Why waste your energy when you can find a solution to it.
The biggest struggle is the humidity, Alaska weather is either dry or very cold, we're adjusting. What ever life throws at us we're up for it.




Do you feel there have been more opportunities for you career wise?
Yeah, well, I was blessed to perform at a showcase in the heart of music row recently and have had a couple other opportunities to also perform around the area. That was the first one though , it was incredible. I have a couple other things coming up, one in Cookeville, a couple of shows and CD signings, one in Henderson the Chester County Fair to a bunch of other events coming up. We have several things in the hopper, it is really shaping up.



Someone such as Doug Briney enjoys what life has to offer without slowing him down in the process. Whether it is moving from Anchorage, Alaska to the heart of country music to traveling performing for fans. Doug Briney has a way about him that is truly remarkable, his go getting attitude, his philosophical point of views, it is no wonder I support Briney through and through. His journey is yet unfinished, it is simply beginning. "I'm not a spring chicken anymore, I'm a risk taker at chance. I feel this is where I need to be. I think Super Country Cowboy will be that boost to get me to the next level. I don't take it lightly and not for granted, I appreciate the opportunity I've been given". Spoken real and authentic Doug Briney will be around for a long time.

Doug Briney Readies For Tate Music Group Debut Album Release Super Country Cowboy

Since his move from Anchorage, Alaska to Nashville, Tennessee Tate Music Group artist Doug Briney has finally reached a cross roads in his career, with a debut album ready to be released in October Doug has revealed the official cover art of the album and a snippet of his brand new single "Super Country Cowboy" that is of the name of the album. "Super Country Cowboy" is a far cry from Doug's previous work, though his positive approach remains the same without steering into a complete new direction. Briney's positive country approach with fans will earn him new fans as he beckons on the release date yet to be confirmed.

What you get from Briney is all heart, a true cowboy, who loves to take chances on his style of music. Country music isn't all twang and honky tonk, it is telling a story as real as it is, fun and uplifting. Doug Briney is far from your typical country music artist, Briney preaches a whole different tune and in Sunday night's June 30th Stage It show Briney delighted once again with his thirty minute Fathers and Freedom show. Those who missed the show Doug performed new material that is set to be included on his debut album under Tate Music Group. The first single release to come from the album " Money The Gun and The Bible" is Briney at his best without steering too far from his Christian roots. I must say what you get from Doug is surely a relaxed comfortable feeling, that easy feeling will touch you deeply. Briney  may not be as familiar as today's most traditional country artists though has made a name for himself independently over the past couple of years who's previous material "It's All Country" and "More Than A Farm To Me" set the standards of traditional country music, with a now new approach Doug and his family made the move from the snow banks of Anchorage, Alaska to Nashville who's still adjusting temperature wise and continuing to settle in, in a little at a time. Nashville couldn't look better on Doug as he steers ahead on his debut titled Super Country Cowboy, a release date is yet to be announced. One of several songs performed during the Stage It show was in fact the title track "Super Country Cowboy", rhythmically the song has it's moments and is quite different from the country crossover material being played in country radio today. The cover song that was specifically chosen to make the list on  Briney's debut album Brooks and Dunn's "Believe", Doug's passion, heart and vocal conviction is breath takenly refresh to the ears and fans will enjoy this cover as much as I do. A personal favorite of mine is "Unknown Solider" which Doug performed on his very first Stage It show a month earlier. The song's powerful message reminds us of our sacrificing men and women who fight for our country, as once a marine, army, or navy veteran always one, that is surely coming from my own experience as the daughter of a marine veteran. Other songs performed during the show, "The Choices You Make", "Feels Like Summer", and  "I Get To" all which showcase Doug's growth musically and vocally. Briney has come a long way and I'ms sure to it to continue to root for him all the way. Country is country no matter how you look at it.

Alaskan Country Artist Doug Briney Gives Tribute To Our Military and Unsung Hero's StageIt Show

On Sunday May 26,2013 Alaskan cowboy, independent country artist Doug Briney gave an online show in honor of our military and unsung hero's. The effect Briney left on me was pure heart and emotion and by request performed Toby Keith's "American Solider" among songs from Tim McGraw, Jamey Johnson, and Brooks and Dunn. Included in the 30 minute show performed a few new tunes that made the cut on his Tate Music Group debut album coming soon. "Unknown Solider", "Pretty Big Deal", and The Money The Gun and The Bible" all which have a much edgier feel, though not steering too far from his country roots. Briney delighted on each song only wanting me to hear more. Fortunately I will have to wait for the debut release and you'll hear it first announced, to be announced. Doug's unwavering love and dedication to our military and unsung hero's only made me more appreciative,as my own dad is a Veteran himself. Doug's story to perform Jamey Johnson's "In Color" was truly a beautiful one,as Doug's grandfather spent time in World War II as a supply clerk, to this day Doug still has his grandfather's black and white photos during the times spent in WWII. Anyone who is effected appreciates the sacrifices our men and women do for our country and continue to do. Briney's news of relocating to Nashville came to a great surprise during the show and is looking forward to the journey.I only wish Doug continued success in his career I'm completely awe inspired by Briney's good heart and tender voice, it will get him far. Every $1.00 in sales from this show went to Veteran's charities and I'm so appreciative of such a great cause and giving to our military and troops, every one of them are our unsung hero's. Doug was happy to announce he will in fact schedule a new StageIt show in late June. Honestly, we need a little more country, after all the country we hear today has the cross over appeal, Briney sticks to his roots even if it does push the boundaries a little. Doug Briney's Songs For The Unsung Hero's was captivating,many blessings to Doug, his family and to all the families missing loved one's who are currently serving our country.

From the snowy hills of Anchorage, Alaska independent country artist Doug Briney has reason to smile these days. Briney's big news announcement came earlier today that in fact Briney has been signed to Tate Music Group who has worked with country artists Lee Greenwood and Neal McCoy. Doug's positive country style suits well with the Christian based label. Briney's deal with Tate will bring new music and new challenges to the fore front in Doug's growing career. With any indication the traditional country sound will emerge through Briney's deeply tender heart felt vocals that will surely give country music something to talk about. Anchorage, Alaska artist Doug Briney known for his singles "More Than Just A Farm" and "It's All Country" recently took time out of his schedule to sit down with me in our first interview, I must say Doug's speaking voice is just as soothing and  comforting as his singing voice who continues to work towards his goals of making it to the big city of Nashville one day, it's not a far stretch, after all if your into the likes of positive country such as Josh Turner and Chris Young then your in for a real treat. Doug brings us some great positive country influences who covers Young's "The Man I Want To Be" and Turner's "Would You Go With Me" from his live stage shows across Anchorage among Ronnie Dunn's "Bleed Red". Briney is a true gift as it does clearly show, Doug,do you believe this was the chosen path to lead?  Right now, yes! if you would have asked me six or seven years ago my answer would have been the complete opposite. Timing has been everything these days, there has been considerable growth through the years. "I do believe timing is everything Doug, there is a reason behind every purpose"; "Absolutely Shellie!" Doug responds. What have you learned  through out your career at this point? "I've walked away with a revelation being true to myself, others see it because truly people are people, you identify with one another as we all want the same things in life, they just happen at different times". Oh, most definitely Doug, sometimes showing your real self can open you to a ton of criticism, for the most part it's just dealing with it.How supportive has the community been towards your career in music? For the most part they have been supportive, believe it or not Anchorage has a huge country music following, although the downside is the lack of the larger venues, we have the clubs and bars where most fans go, it's however the limited space and venues that seem to be the toughest. The fans here are really excited and keep asking me when I'm going to make the move to Nashville. Have you experienced any memorable moments from your live shows?  I did a show in Homer, Alaska and there was this lady who wanted to hear a particular Toby Keith song, I really didn't know all the lyrics to it and only knew the first couple of lines, she was really aminent on hearing it, so I brought her up on stage, she was excited I gave her that much, but she kept going on and on. I went on to explain to her the next time I'm there I'll know the entire song, she just wasn't satisfied. I then told her if she sits down I'll perform some other songs and promise her she'd have a good time, I made her happy after all. Later, the bartender that evening said to me how well I handled the situation. That was a moment I'll never forget. You perform many cover songs from other artists such as Ronnie Dunn, Chris Young, Josh Turner and Toby Keith, what drives you to perform such meaningful songs?  Every single song I sing I can personally identify with. When I heard Chris Young's "Voices" the first time I felt personally connected to, the days my dad would tell me "don't cross that line" jumped out from the song especially. Those kind of lyrics from a song people really connect to. It comes down to picking the right songs, like "Voices" and  Bleed Red by Ronnie Dunn. Blake Shelton took "Ole Red" and made it a hit. I want to showcase what fits to me but to also have that longevity as well.
Oh most definitely Doug, it comes down to a song someone will connect with on a personal level, it is all in the approach and delivery to a song. "Yes, Shellie it is", Doug replied. You have a strong sense of faith in God, do you think that is what draws you to the music you perform? Absolutely, my faith and the music is intertwined, it works. There are spiritual aspects to the music where as it isn't religious or to what you practice is what you preach, there is a separation of the two, I like to call it positive country, it really is just positive country.
It really is positively reflective,quite reminds me of what Vince Gill has done throughout his career. "You've got that right Shellie, Vince is an influential singer songwriter, take his song "Threaten Me With Heaven" the message stands alone by itself, as so it is with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, from the song  "Baby Girl" in the line where she sings "dear mom and dad please send money, I'm so broke it isn't funny, love your baby girl". Words like that people relate to, and reminds me of a time when my daughter was learning the ropes of following her dreams and made the move to Los Angeles, California.
Speaking of Jennifer Nettles and Vince Gill if you could collaborate with any country artist who would it be? Jennifer Nettles hands down, she takes a song to a different place, she stretches a performance throughout a live show, the first time I saw a live performance on TV sealed the deal for me, this was someone who I was in complete awe of musically. If there was ever a way I could collaborate with her would be well worth the time. Vince Gill on the business side of things, he's very business minded, to show me the ropes of what I can do to improve.
Of course every artist wants to succeed in this business, what separates you from the rest? I like to say that is my faith, that is number one to me, and the real desire to do more with my music, I'm just not satisfied yet, I won't be until I get to a place I can better myself. It is the work ethic in me.
When it all comes down to this Doug, at the end of the day who inspires you?
I wouldn't be the man I am without my wife, my family and faith. Honestly I have a tremendous self drive to keep myself going, not only for my family but for myself as well.
