Tom Gossin, Mike Gossin and Rachel Reinhart of Gloriana have all gone through what has been a crazy two years since the departure of then member Cheyenne Kimball. An Exclusive Maggie Rose Interview

Photo courtesy of Maggie Rose, Maggie Rose Music, RPM Entertainment

When she first made the move from Potomac, Maryland to Nashville at the age of 19 Maggie Rose would learn what most young girls would starting out on a career in country music, all while meeting with record labels and meeting people who would shape her life, all life lessons and more would come. Maggie released her single version of Kings of Leon's  "Use Somebody" under her biological name Margaret Durante, the song thrust Maggie into the spotlight as a rising star, and still on the rise to the star she is. Now more than ever Maggie's determination to truly succeed comes to a crossroads finally making it. Her spirit and zest for life is contagious, Maggie Rose makes you feel like family.
In our first interview chat Maggie and I discuss what all girls talk about, self confidence, body image, and to live your dreams. Maggie Rose will always be Margaret Durante, so I had to ask how different is Maggie from Margaret? " There really isn't, it's only the change of who I am, I've gone through these changes in the past couple of years and realized to be who I am. I've always been Maggie Rose to my family who have always called me Maggie, this was the nickname I grew up with Maggie Rose".  What did you take away from the changes you experienced? " To be who I am, really it's all in the presentation how you represent yourself to others, I realized how important it is to just be who I am. That is true Maggie, people see through what's real and honest. I appreciate your honesty, " thank you Shellie, that is so sweet of you to say, I have to agree".  How have you dealt with the pressure to look or act a certain way from other female artists in this industry? " I look at as we're all unique in our own way and what influences us, it's feeling comfortable in our own skin, us as women are perceived differently from men and it's harder to live  up to those standards, it's stepping out of the box not to be afraid of who we are". Oh yes, it is, very well said Maggie, thank you again Shellie. As our conversation grew the most of random questions would appear not even listed from the  original set. We laughed of our weirdness which was cool as I can be weird and random at any given time. "Us weirdos need to stick together, said Maggie". You've been hard at work on your first album that is getting released later this year, your first single "I Ain't Your Mama" has a strong message, you've had a big female following, have your male fans felt offense to the message of the song? "No, not at all I've heard some crazy stories from my male listeners what their girlfriends tell them what to do or not do, there will be criticism I'm sure". We can't always please everyone, doesn't always happen that way unfortunately, that's for sure Shellie. I'm very appreciative you take your time with people, interacting with others, did your mom and dad instill that in you? "Yes they did, their incredible people, they knew I had an opportunity and wanted me to go for it,their very supportive, very genuine, they really care for personal relationships. Your having a busy year now with the release of "I Ain't Your Mama" now on radio, are you having fun visiting radio stations? Oh yes! the band and I are just getting out there promoting the song, meeting the program directors, the staff at every visit have greeted us with open arms". "I can't thank you enough Shellie at Country Music City Promotions for promoting me", Maggie tells me as I was quick to respond just a month ago attended The Country Fest in Ohio and although missed more than half of the set due to reasons under my own control made it for the last two songs and quickly recognized her. The voice matches the girl, the confidence you possess is strong and it shows. Is there ever a time you feel different? "I believe everyone does, yes, there are times I get frustrated and remind myself it's okay because if I go out on stage it will show, people will see that, I'm going out there to let people know they can put their frustrations behind, I want them to have a good time when they come to one of my shows". I know that all too well Maggie, I remind myself often to put my frustrations behind, it's leaving it at the door before a day at work. "How excited were you when you were asked to join Gary Allan and Rodney Atkins on The Country Throw Down tour? " I was blown away! this is my first major tour so to even get asked was an incredible feeling and quite a challenge, the band and I have had a blast this summer".
You have such a passion for music and performing, I appreciate your love of music. I have those same passions. "Thank you Shellie, she tells me yet again. Maggie is appreciative of the support. "I remind others to make their dreams count it's what you do with it to make it happen", Maggie replies. I can't thank you enough Maggie for the interview, " thank you Shellie for interviewing me and getting my music out there to everyone.

Shy Blakeman Interview

photo courtesy of the official website Shy Blakeman
Country Music City Promotions design

What many might not know Shy Blakeman truly has heart, he's wise beyond his years an old soul at that.  His love and passion for music run through his veins and it shows. The winner of Billy Bob's Honky Tonk Recording Contest 2012 has been on the road throughout most of the year performing for you the fans. Shy has taken time out of his busy schedule to sit down with me for his first interview here at Country Music City Promotions with many to come in the future.
I feel blessed for any opportunity to interview an artist, the connection is more than a sweet moment in the spotlight, I'm not one for sugarcoating, it's simple as this, the love for great music.

Shy, you really sing from your soul, where does all the passion come from? That's a tough question, It comes from a place deep inside, you can't really explain it,either it's there or not.

Did you always know that this is what you wanted to do? Yes!

Was there ever a time when you felt like giving up, what kept you going? There were times, yes this could have all gone away,I've had to sacrifice a lot, I've had to streamline this path I chose. The passion really keeps you going.

In this business you have to be thick skinned, what hurts the most getting told you're not good enough or your music isn't what people want to hear? Either people will like you or they don't,they don't have to listen to you, I get this all the time, I've had to look at it this way, people will criticize you, there are people who are closed minded they don't see it happening so they'll put you down. You just have to let things roll off your back. It hurts but that is what keeps you going for what your passionate about.

Has your family been supportive of your career choice?  It's taken years for them to realize this was my dream,my dad was a musician, he knew what it was like, they were fairly supportive at first now a days their more supportive than ever.

Aside from performing and making music, do you have any hobbies? There really isn't time to do anything else these days with a busy schedule; visual art, history studies, philosophy.

TV reality has given performers many opportunities, did competing on Nashville Star give you the push you needed to get where you were going? What came out of  competing was making relationships with the other contestants, learning what I needed to make a go at this, yeah it did.

You worked with Miranda Lambert on the song "Crying In Your Sleep" who as well competed on Nashville Star how did the collaboration come about?  I had the music written with the lyrics and it needed another person, without a partner the song wouldn't have made sense. I asked Miranda and she jumped on it. Growing up our families lived close by to one another, we traveled together for shows. It was a no brainer not to have her on the song.

What advice would you give someone who wanted to pursue a career in music? Disregard others opinions, make what counts, risks are worth taking even if it means taking the long road, it's lonely, you eventually get there.

Who have been your biggest influences? I've always looked to the musical style, the message and performance of an artist such as Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Johnny Cash, John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Lastly, what's been the biggest highlight in your career at this point? I've opened for Bob Seger above all highlights and winning the Live @ Billy Bob's Recording contest.

Shy you continue to bring the best out in yourself and in all you do, the best is yet to come. I'm so happy to be there a long the way, I appreciate all that you do and appreciate the music your bringing to the fans.
